Humble Beginnings

We all have to start somewhere right? I knew there would be a learning curve from family, golden hour, wedding photography to brands. The process, editing style, set up - it's all SO different. This was an entirely new ball game but I was ready to miss a few swings, in order to get the proper practice in. I bought a completely new set up for lighting, a huge white backdrop and immersed myself in as much education as I could.

When my sweet cousin reached out to me asking for pictures, I knew this was the PERFECT chance to practice. There was no where in my house that made sense to set this backdrop up so we cranked the heaters (hello midwest January ) and made an entire professional photoshoot in our garage gym.

Part of me was embarrassed to show the BTS of this shoot - I mean I am hoping to book high end, professional clients. But my husband (and biggest supporter) reminded me that we all have to start somewhere.. and how incredible is it going to feel one day, shooting in my OWN professional studio, looking back on the times that I set up this back drop in our garage, put my head down and really worked for it. This experience was such an incredible reminder for me to make the most of what I have, to believe in myself enough to know that I would absolutely crush a DIY studio session and to share my story so others who are wrestling with self-doubt can step outside of that and make the magic they were destined to create. Now go do something incredible (even if it doesn't feel incredible at first)!!!! ;)
