Hey hair/makeup artist, let's have some fun ;)

We know your branding images are crucial for attracting your ideal clients and booking more business. High-quality, professional photos showcase your talent and allow potential clients to get a feel for your style and what it would be like to work with you.

However, planning a successful brand photoshoot takes careful consideration. I know you are busy slaying looks, so I put together a list of easy to follow steps, to help you plan the perfect brand session:

Where are you using these photos?

Will they be featured on your website, printed marketing materials like brochures, your social media channels, or all of the above? Knowing where the photos will live will help determine how many final images you need, the styles and shots to prioritize, and more. If you plan to use these for any print materials, I recommend having them already made - so you know exactly where you will be plugging in photos and exactly what you need!

Define Your Brand Aesthetic

Your branding photos should be a reflection of your unique style as a hair and makeup artist. What are the keywords that describe your aesthetic? Glamorous, natural, edgy, romantic, etc. Let those define the overall vibe, styling, locations, and editing style you'll use for the shoot. If you have certain brand colors, incorporating those into your outfit choices really helps bring your brand voice to your photos with a cohesive, compelling output.

Find Locations That Complement Your Brand

The location you choose for your brand photoshoot will set the entire scene. An upscale salon or studio space may be ideal for sophistication while an outdoor garden or vintage home gives off a more romantic vibe. Consider having a few location changes to provide variety in your final image set.

Let's Talk Outfits

Next, you'll want to carefully curate 3-5 outfit options that photographers can mix and match. The outfits should align with your brand aesthetic while showcasing your hair and makeup skills. Always, always, always - TRY THEM ON BEFORE HAND! Make sure you feel good in your outfits, they fit correctly and you're ready to jump in front of a camera like the boss babe you are.

The Models

When selecting models, keep your target client in mind and find individuals who represent the types of clients you want to attract. I have had so many clients benefit from trades, or leveraging deals by offering discounts for models to attend a brand session! Use your magic and find perfect faces/heads of hair for your project!

Work With a Brand Photographer

Investing in a professional photographer who specializes in branding is crucial. An experienced pro will be able to expertly capture your artistry, direct the photoshoot, and ensure you get a beautiful set of images to uplevel your brand's visuals. Sure there is probably a family photographer out there who could take your photos.. but I was a family and wedding photographer for three years, and I can tell you that I didn't understand the level of marketing knowledge a brand photographer should have. I didn't get the ROI your session should promise. I wasn't researching websites, considering print materials, or immersed in business visuals to ensure you stand out. There is such a huge difference in preparation, knowledge and delivery - and your business deserves the best.
